No. 4/9 Garnet Open Conference Play With 1-0 Win Over No. 25 Johns Hopkins

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – Before a loud and boisterous crowd of over 600 at Clothier Field Stadium, the No. 4/9 Swarthmore men’s soccer team (6-0, 1-0) used an early goal in the 6th minute by junior Morgan Langley and a lockdown defensive performance to defeat No. 25 Johns Hopkins 1-0 on Saturday evening.

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – After receiving praise and accolades all week after the upset of then-No. 2 Stevens Tech, the No. 9 Swarthmore men’s soccer team certainly lived up to its new-found hype, overwhelming local-rival Widener 4-0 from Clothier Field Stadium on Wednesday afternoon. Sophomore Fabian Castro netted two goals while junior Morgan Langley and sophomore David Sterngold also found the back of the net for the streaking Garnet (5-0).

Garnet Soccer Teams Soar To New Heights in National Rankings

KANSAS CITY, MO. – Both the Swarthmore men’s (4-0) and women’s (5-0) soccer teams are still unbeaten – and both are still climbing the national rankings. Fresh off its 1-0 upset of previously No. 2 Stevens, the Garnet men climbed two spots in the national poll to No. 9. Not to be outdone, the women’s team – coming off thrilling victories over Eastern (2-1) and Elizabethtown (1-0 OT) – moved up eight spots to No. 15, the highest ranking in program history. Regionally, both the men and women are ranked No. 2 in the Mid-Atlantic region – with each trailing No. 1 Messiah respectively.

Newman Named Centennial Conference Defensive Player of the Week

LANCASTER, Pa. – Sophomore Gage Newman of the Swarthmore men’s soccer team has been named the Centennial Conference Defensive Player of the Week for the week ending September 13, the conference announced on Monday.

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – Sophomore Roberto Contreras IV scored in 23rd minute on a beautiful volley in the front of the box and the Garnet defense put a stranglehold on the potent Ducks’ offense, as No. 11 Swarthmore (4-0) defeated No. 2 Stevens Tech 1-0 on Sunday afternoon.

The victory marks the highest ranked opponent ever defeated by a Swarthmore men’s soccer team on record. The win is also the programs’ first win against a Top 5 opponent since the Garnet topped No. 5 Stevens Tech last season.

Garnet Soccer Teams Move Up in National Rankings

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – Both Swarthmore soccer teams opened the season with a 3-0 record and a tournament championship. Now, both teams are shaking up the national rankings.Both the Garnet men’s and women’s soccer teams made a splash in the most recent NSCAA Division III national rankings released on Tuesday afternoon, with the men moving up from No. 13 to No. 11 and the women entering the poll for the first time this season at No. 23.

Langley Brothers Help Propel Garnet to 4-1 Win Over Catholic University

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – Down 1-0 early in the second half, the No. 13 Swarthmore men’s soccer team rallied behind arguably the best set of brothers in Division III soccer. Senior captain Dylan Langley scored two goals – including the equalizer – while junior Morgan Langley netted the go-ahead goal in the 68th minute, as the Garnet rallied to defeat Catholic University 4-1 in the final game of the 12th Annual Garnet Alumni Classic from Clothier Field Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – In its first home contest of the season, the No. 13 Swarthmore men’s soccer team certainly gave the raucous crowd at Clothier Field Stadium something to cheer about.

Junior Morgan Langley recorded a goal and assist while sophomores Gage Newman and Fabian Castro each added first half goals as the Garnet topped Wesley College 3-0 in Swarthmore’s first game of 12th Annual Garnet Alumni Classic.

The victory extends the Garnet’s unbeaten streak in the Garnet Alumni Classic to 12 games, dating back to 2003.
