Newman Named Centennial Conference Defensive Player of the Week
LANCASTER, Pa. - Junior Gage Newman of the Swarthmore men's soccer team has been named the Centennial Conference Defensive Player of the Week for the week ending September 13, the conference announced on Monday.
Newman anchored the Garnet defense in the upset of Stevens.
Newman (Cambridge, Mass. / Buckingham, Browne & Nichols) anchored the Garnet defense that shut down the No. 2 team in the country as Swarthmore blanked Stevens 1-0 on Sunday. The Ducks mustered just two shots in the second half as the victory marked the highest-ranked opponent that Swarthmore has defeated in program history.
The Garnet return to action Wednesday when its hosts local rival Widener. Action is slated to begin at 5:00 p.m.
