Supercomputing Resources At Swarthmore

Swarthmore has received a startup allocation of time on the TeraGrid supercomputing network . We can provide faculty and students time on a variety of machines for education and research purposes (for free!). From TeraGrid’s website: Using high-performance network connections, the TeraGrid integrates high-performance computers, data resources and tools, and high-end experimental facilities around the country. Currently, TeraGrid resources include more than a petaflop of computing capability and more than 30 petabytes of online and archival data storage, with rapid access and retrieval over high-performance networks. Researchers can also access more than 100 discipline-specific databases. With this combination of resources, … Continue reading Supercomputing Resources At Swarthmore

Holiday Email Greeting Cards Bring Infections as Gifts

Clicking on the links above will download a program that subsequently infects your system allowing remote control and access to your (and the College’s) personal data. New Operating Systems

Although new Mac OS and Windows OS are entering the market, ITS does not recommend upgrading to the new operating systems at this time. ITS will make an announcement in the near future about upgrades, but at this time, faculty and staff should not upgrade their office computers to the newer operating systems. In addition, if faculty/staff connect to Swarthmore networked resources from home, they should also not upgrade their home computer’s operating system until further notice. Current operating systems we support are, Mac OS X 10.4, 10.5, and WinXP SP 3. Continue reading New Operating Systems
