Since late summer 2013, Swarthmore users have had access to the entire library of Lynda.com videos (found at lynda.swarthmore.edu).  During that time, we’ve had 1284 users watch 47,272 videos for a total of 3397 hours.  Are you missing out? At the time of this post, there are 5755 courses totalling 212,653 video tutorials available, on topics ranging from Gmail to mindfulness to Amazon Web Services to how to play rock guitar.  But what courses and video are most popular? ITS cautions against upgrading to macOS Sierra

Apple has just released its newest macOS Sierra operating system, and made it available as an automatic download to customers running OS X El Capitan in order to encourage them to update. If you have a Swarthmore issued computer, do not allow Sierra to install. Upgrading the operating system can break certain features, including the ability to log in with your Swarthmore account. MATLAB Licensing

Last year we enhanced our MATLAB licensing to allow any Swarthmore community member to install MATLAB and all available toolboxes without requiring a connection to a license manager every session. This makes it easier for faculty and students to do their work from off campus as well as eliminates any problems with running out of licenses. MATLAB users do need to check in with MathWorks every so often to make sure their licenses are still valid.
