Swat Tennis Opens CC Play With 9-0 Blitz of McDaniel

WESTMINSTER, Md. – The Swarthmore College men’s tennis team (2-5, 1-0) opened up its second season of Centennial Conference play with a 9-0 sweep of McDaniel on Saturday afternoon.

Freshman Malik Mubeen won his first career No.1 singles match, 6-2, 6-4 over McDaniel’s Ben Faber. Mubeen also opened the contest by pairing up with fellow freshman Seth Udelson for a convincing 8-2 doubles win over the Green Terror’s Dan Hovorka/Faber.

WESTMINSTER, Md. – The Swarthmore College women’s tennis team remained unbeaten in Centennial Conference play, as the Garnet earned a convincing 9-0 victory at McDaniel on Saturday afternoon.

The Garnet (5-2, 3-0) had little trouble with the Green Terror, dropping just two games in singles play en route to the dominating victory.

ALLENTOWN, Pa. – Senior Tyler Bradshaw, sophomore Max Hubbard, and sophomore Zach Belden each scored a pair of goals to lead the Swarthmore College men’s lacrosse team (1-6, 0-4), but a Muhlenberg goal with three seconds left in the third period proved to be the difference as the Mules (4-3, 3-1) defeated Swarthmore 9-8 on Saturday evening from Scotty Wood Stadium.

Weston in Second Place Heading Into Final Round of McDaniel Spring Golf Invitational

ABBOTTSTOWN, Pa. – Sophomore Paul Weston shot a team-low 74, finishing the first round of the McDaniel Spring Invitational tied for second place in a field of 78 to highlight the Swarthmore College golf team’s performance on Saturday afternoon.

As a team, the Garnet find themselves tied for ninth place with a score of 324 after the first day.

No.2 Bullets Blank Swarthmore Lax 17-0

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Gettysburg senior Hollis Stahl scored four goals while junior Marnie Cummins dished out a career high six assists as the No.2 Bullets (8-1, 3-0) proved to be too much for the Swarthmore College women’s lacrosse team, blanking the Garnet 17-0 on Saturday afternoon from the Battlefield.

Softball Opens Centennial Play With Split of Dickinson

CARLISLE, Pa. – A solid performance from senior Kathryn Riley on the mound and another superb day at the plate from freshman Danielle Seltzer (two hits, two RBIs) helped the Swarthmore College softball team (8-12, 1-1) take the first game of its Centennial Conference opening twinbill with Dickinson 6-0 on Saturday afternoon. Despite another outstanding pitching performance from Riley (2-4) in the second game, the Garnet lost to Red Devils in game two 1-0 – thanks to a two-out RBI triple from Dickinson’s Alesha Sisco in the sixth inning.

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – The Swarthmore College baseball team’s best start in recent memory just keeps getting better.

Junior Neil Mejia (3-1) and freshman Dylan Jensen (2-1) each provided quality starts from the mound and the Garnet offense pounded out 30 hits and 27 runs on the day, as Swat swept McDaniel 16-5 and 11-6 on Saturday afternoon from Clothier Field.

Swimmer Travis Pollen Off to Great Start at Para Nationals

SAN ANTONIO-Swarthmore swimmer Travis Pollen ’12 opened up the US Paralympic Nationals in San Antonio by qualifying for finals in three events, all with personal best times. Pollen, who is an above-knee amputee, is competing in the S9 class in the meet. In preliminaries this morning he placed 5th in the 100 meter backstroke (1:15.12), 3rd in the 200 IM (2:44.6), and is the top overall seed in his class in the 50 freestyle (28.47). He will swim in finals later today.
