Swat Tennis Opens CC Play With 9-0 Blitz of McDaniel
WESTMINSTER, Md. - The Swarthmore College men's tennis team (2-5, 1-0) opened up its second season of Centennial Conference play with a 9-0 sweep of McDaniel on Saturday afternoon.
Freshman Malik Mubeen won his first career No.1 singles match, 6-2, 6-4 over McDaniel's Ben Faber. Mubeen also opened the contest by pairing up with fellow freshman Seth Udelson for a convincing 8-2 doubles win over the Green Terror's Dan Hovorka/ Faber.
In singles play, Udelson picked up a win out of the No.2 slot, downing McDaniel's Steve French 6-1, 6-2.
Freshman James Wieler (6-1, 6-2) and Eric Legunn (6-3, 6-2) also picked up singles wins from the No.3 and No. 4 positions, while freshman Sam Clark (6-0, 6-2) and sophomore Taylor Chen (6-0, 6-0) picked up their first singles wins of the 2010 season.
In doubles play, Clark/Legunn earned an 8-4 win at the No. 2 slot, while the combo of Wieler/ Chen won 8-0 from No. 3.
Swarthmore hosts Washington & Lee from the College on Sunday beginning at 11:00 a.m.
