Drew Edges Garnet Field Hockey 1-0

BOX SCORE

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - A goal from Drew's Jessica Johnson  in the 12th minute of play would prove to be the difference as the Rangers (5-1) held on for the 1-0 victory over the Swarthmore College field hockey team (2-4) on Sunday afternoon.

Ashmore stopped five Drew shots in the game.

The Garnet held advantages in shots on goal (10-7) and corners (12-10), but just could not get the ball past Drew goalkeeper Christiana Carlini, who finished the day with 10 saves and the clean sheet.

The Rangers lone goal came early in the first half. After regaining possession after a defensive save from sophomore Catie Meador  prevented a goal, Drew's Mary Esposito found an open Johnson in front of that net, who took a pass and slipped the ball past senior goalkeeper Katie Ashmore to give the Rangers a 1-0 lead.
From there, the Garnet would have plenty of scoring chances - only to come up empty each time.
For the Garnet, sophomores Sophia Agathis and Katie Teleky finished with four and three shots on goal respectively.
In net for the Garnet, Ashmore made five saves.

Swarthmore opens Centennial Conference play this Wednesday when it hosts Bryn Mawr. Action begins at 4:30 p.m.
