Garnet Volleyball Blanks Widener 3-0

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - Junior Genny Pezzola had 16 kills to lead the Swarthmore College volleyball team (4-1) to a convincing 3-0 win over the Widener Pride (1-4)  in Swat's home opener on Tuesday night from Tarble Pavilion.

Sophomore Genny Pezzola blasted 16 kills on Tuesday night.

After taking the first two sets in dominating fashion  - 25-15 and 25-19 -  Swarthmore would go down by as much as nine in the third set.  It was all Widener before back-to-back kills by freshman Danielle Sullivan would spark the Garnet comeback that would see the score quickly tied at 20-20.  Swat the won four of the next five points before Sullivan would knock down the game-winning point to take the final set 25-21.

On offense, the Garnet freshmen Maggie Duszyk (7) and Sullivan (8) combined for 15 kills of their own in their Tarble Pavilion debut.  Sophomores Kat Montemurro and Allison Coleman continued to make their presence well known as Montemurro would blast seven kills and Coleman would set up 33 assists.

Coming off of an tournament MVP honor at the Greyhound Premier, junior Lisa Shang continued to anchor the Swat defense with 16 digs.  Sullivan would also come up with 16 digs.
The Garnet will try to keep the momentum going on Friday September 10 when it hosts the Garnet Classic Tournament.  Swarthmore will open up with Albright at 4:00 PM.
