Lebanon Valley Penalty Kick Propels Dutchmen Past Swarthmore Womens Soccer 1-0

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – Lebanon Valley’s (1-1-0) Sara Drabenstadt scored her first goal of the season on a penalty kick in the 42nd minute en route to a 1-0 win to give Swarthmore (1-1-0)  its first loss in the Swat Kick Classic since 2005.

Senior Laura Bolger’s physical defensive effort in the Garnet box resulted in a foul and yellow card and eventually led to the Flying Dutchmen’s successful penalty kick conversion.

Up to that point, the Garnet defense was steady, allowing no shots on goal.

Swarthmore had multiple scoring opportunities in comparison with Lebanon Valley, collecting 23 shots on the night compared to the Flying Dutchmen’s 7.  The solid goalkeeping of junior Sami Young amounted to ten saves and prevented the hopes of a Garnet comeback victory.

The Garnet will look to bounce back this Tuesday when they face off against the Widener Pride at Clothier Field.
