Wickham Takes First in Steeplechase to Lead Garnet Men at Osprey Invitational
POMONA, N.J. - Junior Chris Wickham captured first place in the steeplechase with a time of 10:27.98 to lead the Swarthmore College men's outdoor track & field team at the Osprey Invitational at Richard Stockton College on Saturday afternoon.
Wickham's first-place finish highlighted a day that saw four other members of the Garnet reach Centennial Conference qualifying times.
Senior Chris Mayer-Bacon finished eighth in the 400 meter dash, crossing the finish line in a time of 59.78.
Freshmen Aidan DuMont McCaffery and Matthew Heck also met Centennial standards in their first outdoor season, with McCaffery taking 13th in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:06.47 and Heck finishing 16th in the 200 meter dash (23.65).
Finally in the distance runs, sophomore Zach Gershenson qualified for Centennials with a 17:11.72 time in the 5,000 meter run, good for 17th place.
The Garnet return to action with the TCNJ Invitational next Saturday.
