Stockbower Hits Rebound Milestone as Garnet Defeat Bryn Mawr 73-48 at Pink Zone Game

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – A special night for the Swarthmore College women’s basketball team also became a special night for one of its biggest stars. During the Garnet’s annual Pink Zone game to promote breast cancer awareness, junior All-American candidate Kathryn Stockbower recorded the 1,000th rebound of her career as part of a monster 22 point, 13 rebound performance as the Garnet (11-13, 8-11) defeated visiting Bryn Mawr 73-48 on Wednesday night from Tarble Pavilion.

Lacy, Gates Come Through in Clutch as Garnet Rally to Defeat Johns Hopkins 55-51

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – Junior Sam Lacy and freshman Will Gates certainly came through when it counted for the Swarthmore College men’s basketball team (6-17, 5-11).

Not only did the duo combine to score the Garnet’s final 11 points in the last two minutes of play and shoot a perfect six-of-six from the free-throw line in pressure situations, but each player recorded a game-saving block in the waning moments as the Garnet rallied to defeat visiting Johns Hopkins 55-51 on Monday evening from Tarble Pavilion.

Garnet Comeback Not Enough as Hopkins Defeats Swat Women 64-54

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – A valiant comeback fell short for the Swarthmore College women’s basketball team (10-13, 7-11 CC), as the Garnet used a menacing full-court press to cut a 19-point halftime deficit down to four points in the final minutes, but visiting Johns Hopkins (13-9, 11-7 CC) shot an impressive 14-of-16 from the free throw line to seal the Blue Jay victory over the Garnet, 64-54, on Monday evening from Tarble Pavilion.

BOSTON – Sophomore Daniel Ly finished in eighth place in the triple jump with a leap of 43’5.25″ – good for the third-best jump in the Centennial Conference this indoor season – to lead the Garnet in the prestigious Valentine Invitational from Boston University on Friday and Saturday afternoon.

Cold-Shooting Garnet Fall at Dickinson, 52-46

CARLISLE, Pa. – For the second time in 24 hours, poor shooting came back to bite the Swarthmore College men’s basketball team.

Playing on consecutive days for the first time in nearly two months, the Garnet (5-17, 4-11) once again could not find any kind of offensive rhythm, shooting a season-low 26.5 percent as homestanding Dickinson (4-17, 4-12) rallied from a halftime deficit to defeat Swarthmore 52-46 on Saturday afternoon in Centennial Conference action.

Playoff Hopes Dashed as Garnet Fall to Washington College 73-64

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – Down 18 points in the second half, the Swarthmore College men’s basketball team (5-16, 4-10) mounted a furious rally get to within six points of visiting Washington College (11-8, 9-6) with under three minutes to play, but two big baskets from Washington’s Kevin Breslin – who scored a career-high 31 points – halted the rally and helped the Shoremen hang on for the 73-64 victory over the Garnet on Friday evening from Tarble Pavilion.
