Stockbower Hits Rebound Milestone as Garnet Defeat Bryn Mawr 73-48 at Pink Zone Game

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - A special night for the Swarthmore College women's basketball team also became a special night for one of its biggest stars.

During the Garnet's annual Pink Zone game to promote breast cancer awareness, junior All-American candidate Kathryn Stockbower recorded the 1,000th rebound of her career as part of a monster 22 point, 13 rebound performance as the Garnet (11-13, 8-11) defeated visiting Bryn Mawr 73-48 on Wednesday night from Tarble Pavilion.

Stockbower is only the second Swarthmore player to reach 1,000 career points and rebounds.

Stockbower becomes just the second player in Swarthmore history to reach 1,000 career points and rebounds, while recording the 63rd double-double of her career.

Along with the performance from Stockbower, the story of the game was the hot shooting for the Garnet. Swat finished the game shooting 48 percent while connecting on nine three-pointers. Swat's proficient three-point shooting also helped out a good cause, as Garnet fans pledged money based on the number of three-pointers made by the home team.

Sophomore Genny Pezzola - one of the top three-pointer shooters in the Centennial Conference - was feeling it from behind the arc, connecting on four three-pointers to finish with 12 points. Junior Ceyland Bodur added 12 points and five assists.

Both teams came out shooting hot, as the Garnet found themselves ahead of the Owls 16-12 at just the 14:22 mark of the first haf. From there, Swat took complete control of the game - racing to a 16-3 run over the next six minutes of play. A three-pointer from senior captain gave the Garneta 32-15 with six minutes to play. From there, the Garnet continued to hit shots - shooting a sizzling  percent for the half - and found themselves with a commanding 42-20 halftime lead.

Costello finished six points on two three-pointers while added three assists. Junior Summer Miller-Walfish scored six points and swatted away three shots.

Lindsay Darvin led the Owls with 17 points. The Garnet defense held Bryn Mawr leading scorer ShanikaBridges-King to just nine points.

The Garnet will close out  the season on Saturday for Senior Day, when Swat hosts rival Haverford. Play is scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m.
