DeLuca, Givans Lead Swat Women at Keogh Invitational
HAVERFORD, Pa. -Making the most of its final meet before the Centennial Conference Indoor Track Championships, the Swarthmore College women's indoor track team saw several individuals meet Conference qualifying marks as the Garnet competed at the Keogh Invitational from Haverford College on Friday evening.
Senior Lauren DeLuca and sophomore Kenyetta Givans - two of the Garnet's top performers all season - were excellent once again to lead the Garnet, with each earning top three finishes from Haverford.
DeLuca earned a top three finish in the one mile run, taking third with a time of 5:21.80. Givans earned conference qualifying with a great performance in the 55m dash (7.58/3rd).
Along with DeLuca, two other Garnet met qualifying standards in the one mile run: Sophomore Kathryn Gonzalez (5:37.00/15th) and freshman Rebecca Painter (5:52.94/24th).
Freshman Jen Johnson - already one of the conference's top qualifiers in the one mile - took 20th in 800 run with a run of 2:30.75 to advance to the championship meet. Senior Mariel Feigen also met qualifying standards in the 800 with a run of 2:32.64 (23rd).
The Garnet also had a strong showing in the field events. Sophomore Nicole Cox, the Garnet's top triple jump performer, will also find herself vying for the high jump title, qualifying with a jump of 5-0.25, earning fifth place.
Finally, sophomore Taylor Wueker earned a spot in next weekend's championships in the pole vault, clearing 8-0.50 to finish 11th.
Swarthmore returns to Haverford next week to compete in the Centennial Conference Indoor Track Championships on Saturday.
