Ly, Heck Lead Garnet Men at Haverford Quad Meet

HAVERFORD, Pa. - Sophomore Daniel Ly jumped into the Swarthmore all-time Top 10 list with a triple jump of 42'11" to lead the Swarthmore College men's indoor track team at the snow-delayed Haverford Quad Meet on Sunday evening.

Ly's jump places him ninth on the College's all-time list, which is less than a foot from his personal best of 43'9.25". The jump was also the fourth best in the Centennial Conference in 2010.

Along with Ly, freshman Matthew Heck continued the impressive start to his Swarthmore career, earning a seventh-place finish amongst Division I competitors in the 400 meter dash with a time 53.57. Junior Dan Kurz (11th place/55.85) and freshman Gabriel Ryan (14th place/ 56.59) followed closely behind Heck in the 400.

Junior Chris Mayer-Bacon earned impressive showings in both the 55m hurdles and 800 meter dash, earning a third-place finish in the hurdles (8.84) and 20th place showing in the 800 (2:07.78).

In the relays, the Swarthmore 'B' team took seventh place with a time of 3:53.51, followed closely in eighth place by the Swat 'A' team (3:54.23).

Senior Jonnie Tompkins found himself in the Top 10 in the 5,000 meter, placing ninth with a time of 16:05.22.

Sophomore Max Hubbard was the Garnet's top finisher in the 55m dash, crossing the line in a time of 7.41.

Swat returns to the track on Friday with a trip to Boston for the two-day Valentine Invite from Boston University.
