Cox Earns First to Lead Garnet Women at Haverford Quad Meet
HAVERFORD, Pa. - Sophomore Nicole Cox earned a first-place finish in the women's high jump, while senior Lauren DeLuca missed first place by the slimmest of margins in the 800 meter run to lead the Swarthmore College women's indoor track team at the Haverford Quad Meet on Sunday evening.
Cox's jump of 4'11.75" was good for first place at the quad meet and eighth-place all-time at Swarthmore College. The jump - tied for the best in the Centennial Conference this season - also easily met Centennial qualifying standards.
DeLuca ran the 800 meter in a season-best time of 2:22.44 and was narrowly beaten by Temple's Rebecca Mims for first place (2:22.12). She was followed closely by sophomore Margret Lenfest, who came in sixth with a time of 2:27.16.
Sophomore Kenyetta Givans had another strong showing in the 55 meter hurdles, earning fifth place with a time of 8.79.
Freshman Hana Lehmann also earned a Top 10 finish for the Garnet, as her leap of 31'4.50" was good ninth place in the quad meet.
In the 400 meter dash, senior Mariel Feigen took 11th with a time of 1:07.37, followed immediately by freshman Mariam Vonderheide (1:07.51).
In the relays, the Swat "A" team finished seventh with a time of 4:34.50.
Swat returns to the track on Friday with a trip to Boston for the two-day Valentine Invite from Boston University.
