Volleyball Defeats McDaniel 3-1; Move to 3-0 in Conference

WESTMINSTER, Md. - Sophomore Genny Pezzola had 23 kills  and 15 digs, freshman Allie Coleman had 30 assists and junior Sarah Lambert had seven service aces as the red-hot Swarthmore College volleyball team (13-5, 3-0) defeated McDaniel 3-1 (24-26, 25-16, 25-20, 26-24) on Saturday afternoon.

With the win, the Garnet move to 3-0 in the Centennial Conference and 13-5 overall, with both totals  already equaling the most the program has had since 2006.

The Garnet volleyball team continued conference dominance when they traveled to rival McDaniel.  Swarthmore lost the first set in a tight battle 24-26 but kept its  composure and fought back hard.  Lambert sparked the Garnet offense rocketing three service aces past the McDaniel defense to end the second set.  She finished the game with seven aces.  Pezzola, who leads the conference in kills per game, continued her reign of the court blasting 23 kills, leaving the Green Terror with little chance of victory.  Senior Johanna Bond and Pezzola led the attack with a combined 34 kills.

Senior Kearney Bangs set up the offense throughout the competition with 14 assists along with Coleman's 30.

It was the same story for the Swarthmore defense.  Conference points leader, Pezzola,  shut down the McDaniel offense with 15 digs.

The Garnet will face-off against a touch Johns Hopkins team on Thursday October 8th.  The showdown begins at 7 PM.
