Montalbano Named All-Centennial
LANCASTER, Pa. -- Swarthmore freshman Anthony Montalbano was named All-Centennial Conference for baseball, as announced by the league office on Wednesday. Montalbano, a freshman, received honorable mention at third base.
Montalbano (Edison, N.J. / John P. Stevens) made a splash in his first-year at Swarthmore, ranking in the top-10 in the Conference in hits (47), walks (19), RBIs (32), triples (three), total bases (74) while leading the circuit in sacrifice flies (six). The infielder also led the Garnet in slugging percentage (.540) as well as doubles (nine).
Montalbano posted 18 hits and 33 total bases in 18 Conference games with five doubles, two triples, two home runs and 16 RBIs.
Montalbano is the first Garnet ballplayer to earn All-Centennial honors since Jared Leiderman ’05 was a First-Team selection as a pitcher in 2005. He becomes just the second Swarthmore freshman to garner All-Conference honors, joining fellow third baseman Ryan Pannorfi ’04 in 2001.
