Swat Tennis Moves CC Semifinal Inside

LANCASTER, Pa. -- The Swarthmore men's tennis team earned the No. 2 seed in the upcoming Centennial Conference Men's Tennis Championships and will host semi-final action at the College.  The Garnet (10-6, 8-1 Centennial) will host Haverford (10-4, 8-1 CC), the No. 3 seed, on Friday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. in the Mullan Tennis Center Courts.

Swarthmore, led by head coach Mike Mullan, lost just one match in April (7-1) and will make its second consecutive appearance in the annual Centennial Championships in just its second year of membership in the Conference.

In case of inclement weather, the Swarthmore/Haverford semifinal will be moved indoors to the Mullan Tennis Center Courts.  Click here for a Campus Map/Directions.

Johns Hopkins (13-3, 9-0 CC), currently ranked 12th in all of Division III in the most recent ITA/Campbell’s listing, will defend as two-time defending champions from Baltimore on Friday morning.  The Blue Jays will host No. 4 seed Washington College at 11:00 a.m.; the two programs have combined to win all 15 Centennial men’s tennis championships (JHU taking three of the last four).

Normally all of the semifinal action would take at the site of the top seed, but Johns Hopkins earned the right to host the Centennial Women’s Tennis Championships as well and, according to the Conference Manual, the men’s action is to be played on Friday-Sunday during odd years.  The Johns Hopkins baseball team is scheduled to host Centennial Tournament action for baseball on Friday afternoon, and the proximity of the tennis courts to the baseball field causes a safety issue with foul balls landing on the court surface.

The winners of the two semifinals advance to the Centennial Conference championship match to be played on Sunday, May 3 at 11:00 a.m. in Baltimore, Md.
