Swat Loses Pair in Lancaster

LANCASTER, Pa. -- The Franklin & Marshall baseball team swept Swarthmore with scores of 4-3 and 7-0 on Saturday afternoon in Centennial Conference play.

The Diplomats improved to a 17-8-1 overall and 10-3 in the Conference while Swarthmore fell to 9-22 and 1-13 CC.

Game one started with the Diplomats scoring the first run but Swarthmore put up two runs in the top of the second. The bats were started with freshman shortstop Spencer Ross (Chappaque, N.Y. / Horace Greeley) registering his 10th double of the season. Ross scored off an error by the catcher after Miles Santo (Middletown, N.J. / Middletown South) stole second. Swarthmore senior second baseman Kevin Kooi (Lafayette, Calif. / Preparatory School) grounded out to the Diplomat second baseman but picked-up an RBI as Santo crossed home plate.

The Diplomats evened the game in the bottom of the third scoring a lone run making the score 2-2.

Following a scoreless fourth, the Garnet went ahead one run as infielder Anthony Montalbano (Edison, N.J. / John Stevens) earned his 35th hit and 23rd RBI of the season, driving in catcher Matt Lamb (Pacific Palisades, Calif. / Loyola).

Garnet sophomore Andy Allen (3-3) (Manchester, Maine / St. Dominic) took the loss, pitching five innings.

Franklin & Marshall tied the game in the sixth and then shored up their win in the bottom of the seventh with a walk-off single down the left field line.

The second game started with the Diplomats taking an early three-run lead in the bottom of the first. In both the fifth and sixth innings Franklin & Marshall earned single runs, pushing the score to 5-0. The score became 7-0 as the Diplomats posted two runs in the bottom of the eighth.

Making his second start of the season, freshman Sam Menzin (0-3) (Westbury, N.Y. / Friends Academy) took the loss for the Garnet. Pitching in relief for the Garnet were Adam Koshkin ’11 (Oakland, Calif. / Head Royce School), Zach Sinemus ’10 (Short Hills, N.J. / Millburn) and Michael Cameron ’12 (Calbasas, Calif. / Viewpoint).
