Swift Times Fall in NJ

EWING, N.J. -- The Swarthmore track and field teams traveled to the The College of New Jersey to compete in the 2009 New Jersey Invitational.

Freshman Kenyatta Givans (Conshohocken, Pa. / Plymouth-Whitemarsh) ran a 15.55 race-time for a personal best in the women’s 100-meter hurdles. Her performance placed her second all-time in program history.

Senior Natalie Stone (Philadelphia, Pa. / Friends Select) placed second in the women’s 800-meter run with a 2:24.06

Two Garnet runners placed top five in the women’s 3,000-meter run leading the way was freshman Melissa Frick (Swarthmore, Pa. / Strath Haven) who second place with a time of 10:50.66, while senior Kathy Feeney (Staatsburg, N.Y. / F.D. Roosevelt High School) finished close behind in fourth with a 10:54.35 race time.

First year Margret Lenfest (Birchrunville, Pa. / The Shipley School) ran a 12:59.59 in the women’s 3,000-meter steeplechase which was good for fourth place.

On the field side of the events freshman Nicole Cox (Los Gatos, Calif. / Castillejia School) tied for second in the women’s high jump posting a final score of 10.00

Leading the men’s team was senior Connor Darby (Nashville, Tenn. / MLK Academic Magnet) who finished the men’s 800-meter run with 1:58.46 on the clock for a fourth place finish, just two seconds from tying his personal-best.

Freshman Chris Wickham (Ridgefield, Conn. / Wooster School) completed the men’s 3,000-meter steeplechase in 10:52.34 minutes.

Field specialist Daniel Ly ’12 (Hershey, Pa. / Hershey) leaped to 12.53-meters in the men’s triple jump to come in fourth place overall in the event.

The Garnet will stay local next weekend, Friday – Saturday, April 17th-18th for the annual Widener Invite in Chester, Pa.
