Too Fast Too Furious: Garnet Edition
NEW JERSEY -- Over the weekend the Swarthmore outdoor track & field teams ran at both the Distance Night at Princeton on Friday night and then spent their Saturday at the Osprey Open hosted by Richard Stockton.
Seniors Dan Hodson (Trumbull, Conn. / Fairfield Prep) and Erik Saka (Quincy, Ill. / Quincy) recorded personal-bests in the men's 10,000-meter race while senior Cait Mullarkey (Wilmington, Del. / Ursuline Academy) posted the second-fastest 5,000 Centennial Conference time (2009 season) at the Princeton Distance Night on Friday night.
Meanwhile, sophomore Patrick Hartnett (Syracuse, N.Y. / Westhill) plowed through windy conditions on the Jersey Shore to win the 1,500 at the Osprey Open with a time of 4;25.05.
Senior Natalie Stone (Philadelphia, Pa. / Friends Select) paced two other Swarthmore runners in the women’s 800-meter run posting a time of 2:35.20 good for second place and was just one step ahead of teammate Margret Lenfest (East Greenwich, R.I. / FDR) who placed third with a 2:35.24 finish. First year Amanda Eng (Seattle, Wash. / University Prep Academy) was the fourth to cross the line at 2:39.75.
Stone raced next in the women’s 400-meter dash finishing fourth with a time of 1:03.03.
In the women’s 1,500-meter run senior Kathy Feeney (Staatsburg, N.Y. / F.D. Roosevelt High School) finished third clocking in at 5:09.71. Also placing third senior Rebecca Woo (Davis, Calif. / Davis Senior) ran a 20:17.13 in the women’s 5,000-meter run.
Freshman hurdling specialist Kenyatta Givans ’12 (Conshohocken, Pa. / Plymouth-Whitemarsh) took second place in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 16.69.
Senior Connor Darby (Nashville, Tenn. / MLK Academic Magnet) was the third to cross the line in the men’s 800-meter run with a time of 1:59.98.
Posting a personal best sophomore Chris Mayer-Bacon (Wenonah, N.J. / Gateway Regional) crossed the men’s 400-meter hurdles at 59.54.
In the men’s 3,000-meter steeplechase junior Andrew Van Buren (Hudson, Ohio / Western Reserve Academy) finished second with a 10:42.89 race time.
The Garnet will travel to The College of New Jersey next weekend’s TCNJ Invite. The meet on Saturday, April 11 is set to begin at 10:00 a.m.
