Garnet Storm Off Course in Pa

ABBOTTSTOWN, Pa. -- The Swarthmore golf team saw its comeback attempt on the second day of competition at the McDaniel Spring Invitational cut short by violent storms in central Pennsylvania.

With heavy rains and strong winds creating tornado-like conditions, the competitors were called off the course mid-Sunday afternoon.  Once the rains had passed, several of the holes were deemed unplayable and the decision was made to keep the 18-hole scores as the final result.

Carnegie Mellon and Susquehanna tied for top team honors with 310 team scores with Swarthmore finishing 10th with a 330.

Senior David Lau (Hong Kong, China / The Hotchkiss School [CT]) led Swarthmore with a five-over par 77, finishing in a tie for seventh out 80 golfers.

The Garnet team made it through the front nine on Sunday, with several players in shouting distance of par.  Swarthmore looks to keep that momentum rolling into Monday, when the Garnet will host Widener, Cabrini and Neumann at Rolling Green Golf Club.  Tee-time is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
