Weston Winds Blow Through Rolling Green
SPRINGFIELD, Pa. -- Garnet freshman Paul Weston fired a five-over par 76 to lead all individual golfers at windy Rolling Green Golf Club Monday afternoon. Hometown Swarthmore finished second in the quad match, posting a team score of 323.
It was a consortium of Delaware (Pa.) County colleges and a university fighting wind gusts of over 30 miles per hour Monday afternoon. Neumann took top team honors with a score of 321, followed by Swarthmore, Cabrini (325) and Widener (337).
Weston (Waterbury, Vt. / Harwood Union) continued his recent hot-streak, falling just one stroke short of his collegiate-best despite the playing conditions. Swarthmore senior Michael Bernasek (Fairfield, Ct. / Hopkins School) and freshman Alex Nichamin (Brookville, Pa. / Brookville) both posted 82s while senior David Lau (Hong Kong, China / The Hotchkiss School [CT]) completed the team scoring with an 83.
Thomas Moran of Neumann and Mike Ryan from Cabrini tied for second on the individual leader board, posting 78s while James Presto from Widener also broke 80 with a round of 79.
Swarthmore continues one of its busiest stretches of the season this Wednesday, traveling north to Stonewall for a match with Centennial-foe Ursinus. Tee-times are slated for 1:30 p.m. This Saturday, April 4 the Garnet golfers will visit another picturesque course, taking on Philadelphia University at The ACE Club, site of the Exelon Invitational hosted by Jim Furyk, winner of the 2003 U.S. Open.
