Garnet Work Past Bullets
GETTYSBURG, Pa. -- The Swarthmore women's tennis team opened their Centennial Conference schedule with a 8-1 win over Gettysburg on Saturday afternoon.
Regionally ranked #8 Swarthmore improved their record 2-3 overall and 1-0 in the Centennial, while Gettysburg evened to 3-3 and 0-1 CC.
Swarthmore started an early lead picking-up all three doubles points. In No. 1 doubles pair Rachel Wallwork ’10 (Washinton, D.C. / Georgetown Day) and Jennie Park ’09 (Rockford, Ill. / Guildford), regionally ranked at #5, downed Gettysburg 8-3.
#10 Wallwork extended her Conference win streak from last year to 11 matches in a row blanking Katie Taylor with scores of 6-0, 6-0 in No. 1 doubles. Park picked-up a 6-3, 6-1 win in the second singles slot while Luann Cignavitch (Charleston, S.C. / Porter-Gaud School) notched 6-2, 6-3 over Meghan Kelly. Garnet sophomore Alexis Hickman (Vienna, Va. / George C. Marshall) went three sets with scores of 602, 3-6 and 6-3. In the number five slot senior Marissa Lee (Cary, N.C. - Cary Academy) notched 7-5 and 6-3 set wins.
On Thursday, March 26 the Garnet will travel to neighboring Bryn Mawr College for a 3:30 p.m. match.
