Cougars Pounce Swat Baseball
SWARTHMORE, Pa. -- The Swarthmore baseball team fell to Misericordia, 13-7, despite two homers Sunday afternoon at Clothier Fields.
Misericordia improved their overall record to 10-7 while Swarthmore evened out at 8-8 overall.
Swarthmore answered a Cougar run in the bottom of the first when freshman Mike Waterhouse (Weston, Conn. / Weston) sent a double up the middle, advancing short stop Anthony Montalbano '12 (Edison, N.J. / John P. Stevens) into scoring position. Sophomore outfielder Ben Schneiderman (Easton, Pa. / Easton) singled through the left side, sending both runners across the plate.
The third inning got started when Waterhouse (3-for-4 on the day) hit his first collegiate home run over the left field wall, tying the game at 3-3. Swarthmore then scored two additional runs to hold the 7-3 lead.
Garnet sophomore Andy Eisenlohr (Lower Merion, Pa. / Lower Merion) (below) cracked his first career home run in the bottom of seventh inning, send Swarthmore ahead, 7-6.
Misericordia batted well in the final two innings, scoring the final seven runs of the game for the win.
Freshman Max Weintraub pitched the final four innings for the Cougars collecting the win, while Garnet freshman Adam Hardy (Pompano Beach, Fla. / Pine Crest) suffered the loss in relief.
The Garnet will open their Centennial Conference schedule on Tuesday, March 24th when they travel to Allentown, Pa. to take on Muhlenberg. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
