Cardinals Let it Ride
QUEEN CREEK, Ariz. -- The Wesleyan baseball team had a successful Thursday afternoon sweeping Swarthmore in a double-header with scores of 13-10 and 9-3 at Queen Creek High School.
Swarthmore wrapped up their spring break trip with a record of 2-4 while falling to a 3-5 overall record. Wesleyan closed the day with an 2-3 record.
In the first game of the double header, Wesleyan took an early lead getting 10 runs off seven hits. Although Swarthmore scored nine runs in the final two innings it was not enough for the rally caps to come out in full force. The game ended in a 13-10 win for Wesleyan. Garnet short stop Anthony Montalbano ’12 (Edison, N.J. / John P. Stevens) went 4-for-4 for Swat with a solo home run in the seventh, he also had an RBI double in the third. Right fielder Jimmy Gill ’10 (Lewes, Del. / Cape Henlopen) added two RBIs to the Garnet total going 4-for-2.
The second game of the afternoon saw more Wesleyan offensive success with a final score of 9-3 in favor of the Cardinals. In the bottom of the fourth first year Spence Ross (Chappaqua, N.Y. / Horace Greeley) tried to get the bats started with an RBI double which was followed with a triple from sophomore Andy Eisenlohr (Lower Merion, Pa. / Lower Merion) which sent two runners home.
The Garnet will play their final three games of Spring Break with a trip to Georgetown, Delaware. On Saturday, March 14th they will take on Babptist Bible, first pitch is set for 2:30 p.m. Then on Sunday, March 15th the Garnet will play in a double-header with SUNY-IT starting at 11:00 a.m.
