Six Track PRs, School Record, Fall in The Big Apple
NEW YORK -- Swarthmore senior Cait Mullarkey set another school record and posted a NCAA-provisional qualifying time Friday evening at the NYC Gotham Cup in New York City Armory's New Balance Track & Field Center.
Mullarkey (Wilmington, Del. / Ursuline Academy) set her second school record in two weeks (she posted a new mark in the mile run last Friday at the University of Delaware) after winning the 5,000-meter run in 17:35.11. She out-ran 18 other runners, some of whom are a part of Division-I programs.
Swarthmore personal records continued to fall as six other Garnet runners had career races at various distances.
Distance runners Bess Ritter '09 (Quaker Hill, Conn. / Waterford) and Melissa Frick '12 (Swarthmore, Pa. / Strath Haven) both ran personal-best times in the women's 3,000-meter race as well as marking the Swarthmore top-ten list at fifth and seventh, respectively. Ritter ran a 10:35.81 in the seeded race, while Frick crossed the line at 10:37.25 in the un-seeded run.
On the men's side, senior Dan Hodson (Trumbull, Conn. / Fairfield Prep) kicked 10 seconds off last week's time in the mile race, placing 11th overall in 4:28.64.
Thrower Neel Prakash '09 (Paramus, N.J. / Paramus) tossed a 10.62-meter collegiate personal-best in the men's shot-put.
In the women's 60-meter hurdles, Garnet first-year Kenyetta Givans (Conshohocken, Pa. / Plymouth-Whitemarsh) posted a time of 9.54 for her best collegiate mark. Fellow sprinter Natalie Stone '09 (Philadelphia, Pa. / Friend's Select) crossed the line at 1:24.93 in the women's 500-meter race, also a collegiate-best.
Swarthmore make the short trip to Haverford College on Saturday, January 31st for its next meet, the annual McElligott Invite.
