Track Season Starts on Winning Foot

HAVERFORD, Pa. -- The Swarthmore indoor track teams started their season off on the right foot as three seniors picked-up first-place finishes at the annual Jack Pyrah Meet at the Gary Lutnick Tennis & Track Center in Alumni Field House on the campus of Haverford College.

Senior distance runner Cait Mullarkey (Wilmington, Del. / Ursuline) started her season with a first-place finish in the women’s 3,000-meter run; she crossed the line at 10:29.81. Close behind, junior Nyika Corbett (Myrtle Point, Ore. / Myrtle Point) finished at 10:45.89 in third place.

In the men’s 800-meter run Connor Darby (Nashville, Tenn. / MLK) was the first to cross the line at 2:00.52, out-running 11 Division-I athletes.

Senior Kathy Feeney (Staatsburg, N.Y. / FDR) paced a 5:27.03 run for a first place finish in the women’s one mile. Finishing just behind her was teammate Kathryn Gonzalez, clocked in at 5:53.73 in third place.

The Garnet will return to action following their winter break on Saturday, January 10th as they travel down to Newark, Delaware to compete in the Delaware Invitational hosted by the University of Delaware.
