Bodur Shoots Big in Garnet Win
SWARTHMORE, Pa. -- Swarthmore sophomore Ceylan Bodur scored 18 points in the second half to lead the Garnet to a 70-63 come-back win over Johns Hopkins Saturday afternoon in Tarble Pavilion.
Swarthmore (2-4, 2-1 CC) had a scoring surge in the second half to overcome an 11-point deficit from visiting Hopkins (1-6, 0-2 CC), after Bodur (Istanbul, Turkey / Roberts College) pictured left. Bodur nailed a 3-pointer with ten minutes left, pushing the score to 50-49, the first Swarthmore lead of the second half. Following the crowd-pleasing shot, the Garnet never looked back, shooting a season-best 66% in the second half.
The Garnet ended a 10-game losing streak to the Blue Jays. The leading scorer in the Centennial Conference, Swarthmore forward Kathryn Stockbower (Fort Washington, Pa. / Upper Dublin), had a game-high 25 points and was just one rebound shy of a double-double. Senior guard Melissa Grigsby (West Chester, Pa. / West Chester East) was one of three Garnet players to score in double-digits with 14 points; she also dished out a career-high eight assists.
Blue Jay senior forward Kristin Phillips had a game-high 17 rebounds; she currently ranks second in the Centennial for most rebounds averaging 10.8 per game. Sophomore Siobhan Callanan earned 10 of the 28 bench points and collected four rebounds for Hopkins in just 11 minutes.
The Garnet women return to the court on Tuesday, December 9 when they host Bryn Mawr at 6:00 p.m.
