McDaniel Powers Past Garnet

SWARTHMORE, Pa. -- McDaniel forward Louis Sarras-Grau scored a game-high 16 points with six blocks as the visiting Green Terror defeated Swarthmore 72-55 in the Centennial Conference opener for both teams Wednesday night. Garnet senior forward Raul Ordonez topped the hometown team with 12 points and nine rebounds.

McDaniel improves to 4-1 overall and 1-0 in the Conference while Swarthmore falls to 1-3 and 0-1 in the Conference.

McDaniel senior guard T.J. Odunlami added 14 points for the visitors while sophomore Kevin Henry contributed 11 markers.

The Green Terror showed little affects from the long bus ride, hitting their first four shots from the field.  Odunlami drilled a triple from the top of the key at 18:01 to put McDaniel ahead, 9-0.

Garnet sophomore wing Ryan Carmichael (Portland, Maine / Portland) sank a long jumper to quell the early run.

McDaniel pushed the lead to as large as 15 after another Odunlami elbow jumper and a lay-up by Sarras-Grau at 7:05.  Swarthmore cut it to a nine-point deficit just before half as sophomore forward Sam Lacy (Jericho, Vt. / Mount Mansfield) converted a fast-break lay-in.

McDaniel guard Michael Jarboe drilled a triple right at the halftime buzzer, sending the visitors to a 34-22 lead the intermission. Odunlami led all scorers with eight points at the intermission.

The start of the second half mirrored the first 20 minutes as McDaniel ran off ten quick points to open up a 20-point advantage.  A backdoor lay-up by Lacy stopped the Green Terror surge at 17:11, but the McDaniel offense would prove too potent on this night, hitting on 61% of its second half attempts.

Swarthmore is in the middle of a five-game homestand, welcoming Centennial-foe Johns Hopkins to Tarble Pavilion this Saturday.  The men will follow the women’s contest at with an approximate tip of 3:00 p.m.
