Garnet Women Headed to Conference Playoffs
SWARTHMORE, Pa. -- The Swarthmore women's soccer team is set to make its third consecutive appearance in the Centennial Conference Women's Soccer Championships. This year's edition will again take place at Homewood Field on the campus of Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Md.
The Garnet women (9-3-4 overall, 5-1-4 CC) earned the No. 3 seed in this year’s Conference Championships and will take on the No. 2 seed, Dickinson Red Devils (11-3-3, 7-2-1 CC), in the second semifinal on Saturday, Nov. 8. The game will start 60 minutes following the first semifinal, approximately at 2:30 p.m. Swarthmore topped the Red Devils, 1-0, earlier this season and have won three consecutive matches over Dickinson.
Swarthmore head coach Todd Anckaitis led his troops the championship match in 2006 and was upset in 2007, falling to Ursinus in a penalty-kick shoot-out.
The first Centennial semifinal is set to kick-off at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. The three-time defending champion Johns Hopkins Blue Jays (15-0-3, 10-0 CC), ranked seventh in Division III, will face off the winner of Wednesday’s first round match between the No. 5 seed Haverford Fords (8-9-1, 5-4-1 CC) and No. 4 Muhlenberg Mules (10-4-4, 5-2-3 CC). The first round match for 7:00 p.m. in Allentown, Pa.
The Centennial championship match will take place on Sunday, Nov. 9 at 1:00 p.m. at Homewood Field.
