Corbett Leads Women Harriers to Second Place

DOYLESTOWN, Pa. -- At the Delaware Valley Cross Country Invitational Meet, Swarthmore junior Nyika Corbett finished third overall leading the Garnet women's cross country team to a second place finish. The Garnet men completed the Saturday morning eighth overall.

Corbett (Myrtle Point, Ore. / Myrtle Point) set the pace for the Garnet as the third runner to cross the finish line clocking at 24:20.07. Seniors Bess Ritter (Quaker Hill, Conn. / Waterford) and Emma Stanley (Fogelsville, Pa. / Parkland) finished together in 12th and 13th place, respectively, with times of 25:26.75 and 25:33.61. A second duo of Swarthmore runners ran their 8K in just over 26 minutes: Kathy Feeney '09 (Staatsburg, N.Y. / FDR) finished 16th (26:13.60) and Melissa Frick '12 (Swarthmore, Pa. / Strath Haven) was the 17th (26:36.82) to complete the Swarthmore scoring.

Finishing first for the Garnet men at 29:44.41 minutes was junior Patrick Harnett (Syracuse, N.Y. / Westhill) who tallied a 21st place. The 29th runner to cross the line was senior Erik Saka (Quincy, Ill. / Quincy) who ran a 30:00.84 race-time; following in his foot steps was classmate Dan Hodson (Trumbull, Conn. / Fairfield Prep) at 30:49.28 (39th place). David Riccardi '10 (Syracuse, N.Y. / Westhill) completed his race with 31:51.02 on the clock for a 49th place finish. In his first collegiate race, Zach Gershenson '12 (Hershey, Pa. / Hershey) was the fifth Garnet harrier to finish in 52nd place (32:03.16).

The Garnet return to action on Saturday, September 13th when they host the annual Alumni Meet at 12:00 p.m.
