Weller Wins Steeplechase
POMONA, N.J. -- Swarthmore senior Ross Weller won the men's 3,000 meter steeplechase as the Garnet track & field teams traveled to Richard Stockton College over the weekend.
Weller crossed the finish line first with in the 3,000 meter steeplechase at 10:08.01; the next runner came in 10:15.30.
With freshman Dan Kurz’s (Melrose, Mass. / Melrose) 54.34 effort in the 400 meter dash he qualified for the Centennial Conference Championship.
In the 1,500 meter run Mickey Katz ’08 (Stevens Point, Wis. / Stevens Point Area) won his heat while placing 13th overall with a season-best 4:22.40 race time. Katz knocked off a full four seconds from his previous week’s performance. Freshman Alex Breslow (Tucson, Ariz. / Catalina Foothills) also posted a season-best with a 4:50.84 finish time.
Lauren Deluca ’10 (Audubon, Pa. / Kennedy-Kenrick) finished second in her heat to post an overall finish of 13th place while qualifying for the Conference Championships with a 2:33.46 race-time in the women’s 800 meter run.
Garnet senior Melina Healey (New York City, N.Y. / Fieldston) knocked off 16 seconds off her 1,5000 time from last week to place seventh overall with a 5:10.04 finish-time. Caitlin Russell ’11 (Mountain View, Calif. / Los Altos) finished two behind Healey for a ninth place overall posting a 5:13.44 time. Emma Stanley ’09 (Fogelsville, Pa. / Parkland) qualified for next month’s Conference Championships with a season-best of 5:18.45 and improved on last week’s 5:25.22 race-time.
Heather Hightower ’09 (Poughkeepsie, N.Y. / Oakwood Friends) places 10th overall with a throw that traveled 9.10 meters in the shot put.
The Garnet will compete this coming Saturday, April 12 at the TCNJ Invite - first race is scheduled for 10:00 a.m.
