#25 Generals Command Garnet 9-0
SWARTHMORE, Pa. -- Facing stiff competition from 25th-ranked Washington and Lee Generals, the Garnet fell 9-0 despite several nail-biters in singles and doubles play.
The Garnet made a strong showing at No. 1 doubles, with senior Jon Lo (Honolulu, Hawaii / Iolani School) and junior Kevin Shaughnessy (South Kingston, RI / South Kingston) giving the Generals’ Tim Ross and Jamie McCardell an early scare, forcing them to fight off two match points to secure a 9-7 victory.
In No. 1 singles play, Lo again faced off against Washington and Lee’s Ross, ultimately falling in a tight 7-6 (8), 6-3 match. Freshman Mark Wee (Syosset, NY, Syosset) confronted the Generals’ Nat Estes in an intense three-hour match at No. 3 singles, Estes barely squeaking by with a 4-6, 7-5, 6-4 win.
Next Saturday, the Garnet will travel to Fredericksburg, VA to take on #10 University of Mary Washington.
