#24 Profs Top Swarthmore
SWARTHMORE, Pa. -- Visiting Rowan University, ranked 24th in the latest NFCA poll, got three first-inning runs on their way to a 4-0 win over Swarthmore in non-conference softball action at Clothier Fields Sunday afternoon.
Originally scheduled as a doubleheader, Rowan graciously agreed to play just one game as Swarthmore had unforeseen circumstances occur prior to the first pitch.
The Profs (18-3 overall) got three hits, a run and an RBI from sophomore catcher Stephanie Taraschi (Mt. Ephraim, N.J. / Audubon). Senior infielder Kristin Wallace (Glassboro, N.J. / Washington Twp.) added two hits and scored once.
Junior Jackie Sasko (Hamilton, N.J. / Steinert) limited Swarthmore to three hits in five innings, striking out eight Garnet hitters on the way to her 10th victory of the season.
Swarthmore sophomore Kathryn Riley (Dagsboro, Del. / Indian River) pitched her fifth game in four days, effectively stranding 13 Rowan runners over 7.0 innings. Riley slips to 8-4 overall after striking out three batters with out a walk.
The Garnet got a double from freshman Maggie Vizcarra (Long Beach, Calif. / Long Beach) and base hits from junior Christine Sendelsky (Edison, N.J. / John Stephens), senior Katherine Gold (Cherry Hill, N.J. / Cherry Hill East) and junior Kristin Caspar (Briarcliff Manor, N.Y. / Briarcliff).
Swarthmore resumes Centennial play this Tuesday, April 1 when Ursinus visits Clothier Fields for a 3:00 p.m. doubleheader.
