Garnet Extend Winning Streak

WEST CHESTER, Pa. -- The Swarthmore women's lacrosse team (4-2) continued their winning streak as they rolled to a 13-8 win over Widener (1-3) on a drizzly Tuesday evening at Leslie C. Quick Jr. Stadium.

Garnet midfielder Abbe Muller ’10 (West Hartford, Conn. / Conard) scored the first and last goal during the first half for the Garnet before completing her hat trick in second half with two more goals. Midfielder Emily Evans ’11 (Atlanta, Ga. / North Springs) picked up her first goal of the afternoon on the way to registering her third hat-trick. With 17:53 left in the half freshman attack Amy Vachal (Somerset, N.J. / Rutgers Prep) scored an unassisted goal to make the score 3-1, before assisting sophomore Alex Gilbert-Bono’s (Wellesley, Mass. / St. Mark's) goal at 17:04. Registering her fifth goal of the season, senior defender Megan Sanborn (Lewiston, N.Y. / Nichols School) notched one past the Widener goalie with 9:18 remaining in the half. Garnet attack Marissa Schafer ’09 (Moreland Hill, Ohio / Laurel School) had an unassisted goal at 7:08. Evans finished Swarthmore’s eight goal scoring streak to make the score 8-1.

Swarthmore entered the second half up 9-2; Muller scored Garnet back-to-back goals to push the score to 10-3. Vachal scored her second goal of the afternoon with 17:32 remaining on the board. The final Garnet goal was scored by Evans to make the score 12-5 at 16:32. The Pride scored the remaining three goals to make the final score 13-8.

Garnet goalie Susannah Blair ’08 (Princeton, N.J. / Princeton Day) collected 12 saves and picked up eight ground balls.

The Garnet will return home to Clothier Field to host the Villa Julie Mustangs on Thursday, March 20 at 6:30 pm.
