Swat Lax Stays Perfect

SANFORD, Fla. -- Sophomore midfielder Anthony Phalen recorded his first career hat trick and sophomore attack Gavin Musynske contributed two goals and four assists as Swarthmore (4-0, 0-0) rolled to a 13-4 victory over New England College (0-2) on Saturday afternoon.

The 4-0 start for the Garnet is their best since 2000, when the team started 5-0 and eventually earned an ECAC berth.

Swarthmore had 11 different players register points in the contest. Junior midfielder Will Predun (Cold Spring Harbor, N.Y. / Cold Spring Harbor) scored a goal and handed out two assists, while junior attack Stelios Wilson (Moorestown, N.J. / Moorestown) and freshman attack Brian Baum (Miami Beach, FL / Ransom Everglades) each had one goal and one assist. Baum’s two points were the first of his career in a Garnet uniform.

Sophomore Tyler Bradshaw (Marietta, Ga. / Marietta), juniors Dave DeSimone (Ronkonkoma, N.Y. / Connetquot) and Todd Friedman (Miami, Fla. / Miami-Palmetto), and seniors Alex Hahn (Sykesville, Mary. / Chapelgate Christian Academy) and Ivano Ventresca (Emmaus, Pa. / Emmaus) each had one goal.

Senior defenseman Dan Sartori (Darien, Conn. / Darien) picked up a game-high eight ground balls, and also recorded an assist in the first quarter on a play in which he intercepted a New England pass in the Garnet defensive zone, carried the ball the length of the field, and dished to Musynske for his second goal of the afternoon.

The Garnet dominated in virtually all aspects of play. Freshman midfielder Mark Czernyk (Montville, N.J. / Delbarton School) won 12 of the 17 face-offs he took. Swarthmore also scored on three of their six man-up opportunities.
