Knights Chill Off Garnet Golf

SPRINGFIELD, Pa. -- The Garnet golf team returned from warm North Carolina this past weekend yet opened their 2008 home schedule against strong Neumann squad in at par-71 Rolling Green Golf Club.

The Knights posted four rounds in the 70s, defeating the Garnet 312 to 344 in team stroke play.

Swarthmore was led by sophomore Jeffrey Lazarus (Woodcliff, N.J. / Pascack Hills), who carded an 84, and senior Michael Johns (pictured right) (Wilmington, Del. / St. Andrew’s), with an 86. Senior Armand Russo (Bloomfield, N.J. / Bloomfield) and junior Michael Bernasek (Fairfield, Conn. / Hopkins School) both recorded scores of 87 forMichael Johns ‘08 Swarthmore.

Neuman’s Mark Van Vliet posted the low score of the day with a 73, followed by 78s from Greg Warrington and Mike Marenic.

Swarthmore resumes play this Friday, traveling to the Jersey Shore for a match with Richard Stockton at Seaview Golf Club in Atlantic City.
