Fifth Place Finishes for the Garnet
LANCASTER, Pa. -- The Swarthmore swim teams picked up fifth place finishes over this past weekend at the Franklin & Marshall Invitation with the women scoring 377 points while the men picked up 290.5 total points.
Sophomore Anne Miller beat a Swarthmore team record in the 1650 free style with a second place finish. Miller’s 18:02.07 finish beat the previous school record set in 2005 (18:06.56). Allison Bishop completed her race in 18:35.87 to place fifth overall in the free style event.
Freshman Sterling Satterfield started the second day of events off as he swam the 200 breaststroke in 2:20.18 to place fifth overall for the Garnet men (2-3, 2-1).
Casey Osborn ‘10 placed fourth in the 200 butterfly with a race time of 2:17.82, while senior Jennie Lewis clocked in at 2:19.16 to place sixth for the Garnet women (4-1, 3-0).
Both men’s and women’s 400 free style relay teams finished in fifth place. Claire Shelden ’10, Lewis, Chelsea Brett ’11 and Franny Zhang completed their race with a 3:49.91 time. While Douglas Gilchrist-Scott ’09, Santiago Lombo ’11, John Heagy ’08 and Michael Ahn ’10 had a 3:21.53 relay time.
In the final event of the meet senior Andrew Frampton finished third in the 1650 free with a 17:08.67 race time.
