Garnet Place Fifth in First Day of Events at F&M

LANCASTER, Pa. -- The Swarthmore swim teams raced in the first day of the Franklin & Marshall Invitational on Saturday scoring 194.5 (men's) and 259 (women's) respectively and both finished fifth.

Sophomore Anne Miller added 20 points for the Garnet women (4-1, 3-0 CC) when she won the 100 butterfly with a 58.94 race time; also placing in the event were classmates Casey Osborn (1:01.61) and Jennie Lewis (1:02.03).

Miller picked up a bronze medal for the Garnet women in the 500 free style with a 5:17.63 finish time. Andrew Frampton placed fourth in the 500 freestyle for the Garnet men (2-3, 2-1 CC) with a race time of 4:56.61.

Both the men’s and women’s 400 medley relay teams placed fifth in their races. Allie Jordan ’09, Stephanie Su ’11, Miller and Lewis put in a strong effort for a 4:13.90 finish. The men posted a 3:45.47 with Douglas Gilchrist-Scott ’09, Sterling Satterfield ’11, Brian Roth ’09 and Michael Ahn ’10 as their relay team.

The Garnet men’s 200 medley relay team Gilchrist-Scott, Roth, Kyle Skolfield ’09, John Heagy ’08 clocked in at 1:41.41 for a fifth place finish.

In the final event of the evening, 800 free style relay Casey Osborn ’10, Franny Zhang ’08, Chelsea Brett ’11 and Miller placed fourth with a 8:14.35 race time. The men’s relay team; Heagy, Satterfield, Frampton and Ahn finished the night with a fifth place finish with a time of 7:32.76.

The Franklin & Marshall Invitation concludes Sunday with the 200 back, 100 free, 200 breast, 200 fly, 400 free relay, and 1650 free.
