Gold Named Centennial Player of the Week
LANCASTER, Pa. -- Swarthmore shortstop Katherine Gold has been named Centennial Conference Player of the Week for the week of March 11-18.
Gold, a junior, was named All-Tournament at the 2007 Smash Hit Spring Break Tournament, hosted by the Savannah College of Art and Design, after hitting .474 (9 for 19) with two doubles, a triple, a home run while scoring four runs and driving in five more. The junior captain's highlight game came in a 4-1 win over Hood on March 15 when she was a perfect 4 for 4 with a home run, two doubles and two RBIs.
Gold leads the team in batting average (.462), hits (12), on-base percentage (.500), while tying for team-lead in total bases (20), slugging percentage (.769) and RBIs (7).
Swarthmore is 5-3 overall in 2007 and will open up Centennial Conference play on April 5 at Ursinus.
