#8 Sewanee Tops Garnet, Swarthmore Ranked #19
CLAREMONT, Calif. -- Eighth-ranked Sewanee defeated the Swarthmore women's tennis team 9-0 on the final leg of the Garnet spring break trip to southern California. Swarthmore slips to 2-2 overall while Sewanee remains undefeated at 7-0.
Sewanee is ranked third in the Atlantic South region while the Garnet are currently ranked sixth.
The marquee match occurred at No. 1 singles where Sewanee's Gabriela Carhavlo, ranked second in the Atlantic South region in singles, handed Swarthmore's Sonya Reynolds '07, fifth in the region, her first loss of the spring by a score of 6-0, 6-4.
The Garnet, the two-time defending Cetennial Conference champion, open up the 2007 Conference slate on Wed., March 21 at Byrn Mawr. Swarthmore, ranked 19th in the latest FILA ITA rankings, will take on the Owls at 3:30 p.m. and return home on Saturday, March 24 to face Gettysburg at 1:00 p.m.
