Sanborn Delivers Garnet Win!
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- Swarthmore junior midfielder Megan Sanborn scored the game-winning goal with 35 seconds left as the visiting Garnet defeated Colorado College 11-10 in non-conference women's lacrosse action Thursday afternoon at Stewart's Field.
The Garnet (3-0) held a 10-6 lead with eight minutes remaining when the Tigers rallied for four consecutive scores to knot the game at 10-all with 1:59 on the clock. After taking a stick to the head, Sanborn converted the free-position attempt to put Swarthmore in front. Sophomore defender Melissa Grigsby gathered the final draw control and the Garnet ran out the clock to remain undefeated.
Sanborn had two goals, an assist, four ground balls and three draw controls while senior Catherine Crawford and freshman Abbe Mueller added three goals apiece.
Swarthmore goalie Susannah Blair made six saves as the Garnet held a 25-22 edge in the shot category.
Swarthmore concludes the trip with a 2:00 p.m. game at Regis College on Saturday, March 17.
