Super Sophomores Lead Garnet to Win Over Fords

SAVANNAH, Ga. -- Christine Sendelsky '08 drilled a two-run single in the sixth inning and classmate Alexandra Zelaski pitched a complete-game as Swarthmore defeated Haverford 7-4 at the Smash Hit Spring Break Tournament hosted by the Savannah College of Art and Design.

Sendelsky and Ashley Brandt '07 both had two hits and senior Kelly Siano added a two-run double in the fourth.  The Garnet (3-2) dropped a 3-1 decision earlier to Missouri Baptist, an NAIA school.

Haverford scored two runs on four hits in the second inning but the Garnet came back to tie the game in the bottom of the third as Brandt led off the inning with a single, stole a base and came around to score Michele Perch's ground ball to the right side.

Sendelsky got on base in the fourth with a single and junior Katherine Gold got plunked by the Fords' pitcher.  Siano brought both runners home with a double, putting Swarthmore in front 4-2.

Haverford tied the score once again in the top of the sixth before Sendelsky drove home freshman Michelle Perch and Brandt to give the Garnet the final margin 7-4.

Zelaski tossed all seven innings for her second win of the season, striking out three batters.
