Owls Trip Up Garnet on Day Two of Seven Sisters Championship

SOUTH HADLEY, Ma. - Senior outside hitter Erica George and junior opposite Vanessa Wells had 15 kills apiece but Swarthmore's rally fell short as Bryn Mawr defeated the Garnet 3-2 at the 2006 Seven Sisters Volleyball Championship hosted by Mount Holyoke Sunday morning.

The Owls (10-8) won the first two games of the fifth-place match and then prevailed in the fifth and decisive game.  Game scores were 30-27, 30-28, 17-30, 26-30, 15-13.

Swarthmore sophomore Jen Wang led the defense with 21 digs and also got 17 digs from George, while Wells added five blocks at the net.  Freshman setter Kearney Bangs collected a match-high 38 assists and eight aces while adding 16 digs.  Junior middle blocker Katherine Gold contributed 12 kills and four blocks for the Garnet (11-8).

Swarthmore resumes play on Thursday, Oct. 12 when they travel down Rt. 320 to take on Widener University at 7:00 p.m.
