Blue Jays Defeat Garnet
BALTIMORE, Md. - Johns Hopkins senior forward Laurie Baumann came off of the bench to register her second career hat trick, leading #11 Johns Hopkins (10-2, 5-0 CC) to a 4-1 Centennial win over the visiting Swarthmore women's soccer team Saturday night.
The first half score remained 0-0 until Baumann scored off of a cross from Lisa Irizarry at the 41:39 mark. Just three minutes into the second half, the Blue Jays struck again with an unassisted goal by Kaitlin Giannetti.
The Garnet got on the board when freshman midfielder Maggie DeLorme set-up fellow classmate Katie Kanuka for her Centennial Conference-leading tenth goal of the season in the 52nd minute.
Swarthmore sophomore back Cait Mullarkey seemed to be everywhere on the field as she led the Garnet defensive effort.
Baumann scored her second and third goals of the season to complete the hat trick, sending the Blue Jays to their second consecutive win. The goals were assisted by Giannetti and Cassandra Vogel.
Swarthmore sophomore goalkeeper Anna de Regt faced 19 shots and made four saves while Kerry Hamilton made two saves for Johns Hopkins.
The Garnet (7-3-1 overall, 3-3 CC) will continue to fight for a coveted Centennial playoff berth over on the Main Line Wednesday afternoon, taking on Bryn Mawr College (5-5-1, 0-4) at 4:00 p.m.
