Sendelsky, Garnet Romp to Sweep
SAVANNAH, Ga. -- Freshman infielder Christine Sendelsky continued her torrid spring break week, totaling five hits and five RBIs as Swarthmore swept a doubleheader with Division I foe Savannah State on Wednesday afternoon at the SmashHit Spring Break Tournament.
The Garnet (3-3) won the first game 11-1 and then rolled in the game two , 11-3. Swarthmore holds a .500 winning percentage after six games for the first time since 1991.
Sophomore Emily Walz (1-1) took the ball in the first game, allowing only two hits over seven innings of work, striking out a career-high 10 batters.
Sendelsky led the Swarthmore offensive effort, going 2-for-4 with a double, three RBIs, two runs scored, and a stolen base. Senior Danielle Miller went 3-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored while freshman Lauren Walker hit 2-for-4 with a double, two RBIs, and scored twice.
The Garnet runs kept coming in the second game as Sendelsky and junior Kelly Siano both were a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate. Sendelsky drove in two runs and scored twice, while Siano scored a pair of runs and drove in one. Sophomore Katie Gold added two-run triple in a nine-run fourth inning.
Junior Marianne Klingaman (2-0) earned the victory after pitching 5.0 innings, allowing four hits while striking out 10 and walking one.
Swarthmore makes its 2006 home debut against Immaculata this Thursday, March 16 at 3:00 p.m.
