Garnet Make Shortt Work of Salve Regina

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. -- Senior midfielder Niamh Shortt tied her career-high with a game-high five goals and an assist to propel Swarthmore to a 14-6 win over Salve Regina on Thursday evening.

The Garnet (2-0) got a pair of hat-tricks from midfielders Katie Crawford '07 and Rachel Jordan '08 to earn their third consecutive win, dating back to the 2005 season.

Swarthmore controlled the mid-field play against the Seahawks (1-2), led by junior Lindsay Roth (eight ground balls, three caused turnovers) and senior Heidi Fieselmann (five ground balls, three CT).

Sophomore Susannah Blair made seven saves in goal for the Garnet.

Short has scored at least three goals on six separate occasions in at Swarthmore and now has 51 goals in her career.

The Garnet make their 2006 home debut this Tuesday, March 14 at 5:00 p.m., welcoming the Moravian Greyhounds to Clothier Field. Swarthmore will then play host for the annual Seven Sisters Tournament on Saturday, March 18 and Sunday, March 19.
