Garnet Shooters Sink St. Joe’s at Seven Sisters
NORTHAMPTON, Ma. - Swarthmore (3-2, 1-1 CC) sank eight shots from behind the arc to roll past St. Joseph's (Ct.) 77-49 at the annual Seven Sisters
Championship on Friday evening on the campus of Smith College. Guard Debbie Farrelly '06 and wing Jessica Fuhr '07 led the Garnet with 13 points apiece
and senior forward Radiance Walters added her second double-double of the season.
Swarthmore will face Wellesley (Ma.) in the semi-finals on Saturday, Dec. 3 at 4:00 p.m.
The Garnet jumped out to a 14-0 lead to start the game, sinking six treys against a St. Joe's zone defense in the first half. Swarthmore entered the
locker room with a 41-22 advantage. The 41 points were the most score in the opening half by a Garnet squad this season.
Swarthmore's hot shooting continued in the second half as the Garnet hit for 42 % (13-31) from the floor. Ten Swarthmore players entered the scoring
column as the Garnet advanced in the winner's bracket for the third time in as many years.
Walters tallied a game-high 11 boards to go along with 11 points, while frontcourt mate Karen Berk '08 added nine points and five rebounds. Freshmen
guards Melissa Grigsby and Kylah Field added nine and seven points, respectively.
