Garnet Drop Game in St. Louis
ST. LOUIS, Mo -- The University of Dallas shot a sizzling 57% from the field, downing Swarthmore 66-53 Saturday night in the consolation game of the 22nd
annual Lopata Classic on the campus of Washington University of St. Louis.
The Garnet (0-7) were led by sophomore forward Ian McCormick, an All-Tournament selection, who notched his second consecutive double-double with 19 points and 14 rebounds. Sophomore guard Noam Fliegelman hit double figures for the second straight night with 10 points.
Swarthmore struggled at the onset of the game, shooting only 26% in the first half as Dallas ran out to a 27-20 lead at the intermission.
The Garnet cut the lead to three with a lay-up by McCormick and a jumper by Fliegelman at the start of the second half. Dallas responded with a 20-10
run to increase the lead to 47-34 with 11 minutes to go. Dallas nailed 16 out of 28 field goals in the second stanza, shooting 45% for the game.
This is the second All-Tournament selection of the season for McCormick; the sophomore earned honors at the Equinox Classic on Nov. 19.
Swarthmore resumes Centennial Conference play on Tuesday, Dec. 6, traveling to Muhlenberg for a 8:00 p.m. game.
